Cat and dog fleas are commonly encountered throughout Canada and thrive in the humid environment of Southern Ontario. The most common flea is the Cat Flea which prefers locations where dust and organic debris accumulate; they are commonly found in homes and often the females feed on humans, making life miserable for people and pets alike. Fleas can strike at any time as they are often carried by feral animals over winters, but usually strike in later summer, through autumn and into winter seasons. Both fleas species are intermediate hosts of the internal parasite (endoparasite) DOG TAPEWORM, hence are dangerous to pets.
